Title of Entry: Reconceptualized Weekly e-newsletter - The Elm: Nursing
About this Entry: To more effectively and efficiently communicate timely news, announcements, and events to our internal audiences at the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON), we reconceptualized our weekly e-newsletter to faculty and staff and launched an accompanying student version of the publication. We also developed a platform to automate content submission and compilation.
The previous faculty and staff weekly e-newsletter, the Weekly For/um, had been in existence since 2016 to communicate internal news and announcements. The format, style, and usability of the e-newsletter had become outdated and overly dense, and the manual process of using a submission form that generated an email to our office and then copying/pasting content manually into Constant Contact each week had become extremely time consuming. (See uploaded materials for an example).
The revamped faculty and staff e-newsletter, The Elm: Nursing, was launched in September 2019. It provides readers with a contemporary, digestible, and user-friendly format, and its automated process saves our small team hours of manual work each week. In October 2019, a new student-specific version of The Elm: Nursing was launched, helping us to fill a void in our ability to communicate regularly with students.
