Title of Entry: Canada Day-The Albert Wong Video
About this Entry: This video is the central digital asset for the online Spring 2020 issue of the Waterloo Magazine, a publication that goes out to 200,000 alumni twice a year. This powerful video about Albert Wong, a distinguished alumnus who served in the Canadian military for four decades before becoming a Citizenship Judge, was created to honour him and help alumni engage with our Spring 2020 “Canada-themed” digital magazine. By attending several of Judge Wong’s citizenship ceremonies, videographer Matt Regehr, captured Wong’s dedication and warmth as he swore in hundreds of enthusiastic new Canadians. Judge Wong has welcomed more than 100,000 immigrants to Canada and has become is a wonderful pride story for Waterloo’s alumni around the world. The video, which garnered thousands of views on social media, was launched on Canada Day. It became a touchpoint for, not only Waterloo alumni but immigrants outside our university community who shared their experiences on social media of being sworn in by Judge Wong.
